Week in Review (November 7 - November 13)

Tuesday (20,636 steps) - Work in the office. Walked on the treadmill and read my book at lunch. It was crazy busy and I ended up working a bit late and rushed over to Green Mountain. I couldn't get all the way up to the top and down before I ran out of time. I haven't done the fire road in a LONG time, and it is just as difficult as ever. I didn't remember a headlamp and it was definitely dark partway down.
Rushed over to Green Mountain to meet up with Mo and Colfax for a walk. Ben met me there to drop off his headlamp for me to borrow. After the walk I had a beer before heading home.
Wednesday (11,343 steps) - Work from home. I had to switch days because Joyce scheduled multiple signings on Thursday and I couldn't find enough witnesses. Olive was obviously confused too.
Took Olive for a walk t chilly walk at lunch. I also did a Peloton ride in the afternoon so I wouldn't have to worry about messing up my streak. After work we went to Louisville run club!
Finally decided to recycle a bunch of shoes - I think at least the top 6 pairs are mine

I only had plans to walk. It was really chilly, but Olive kept us warm by speed walking two miles. Then she was tired.
Thursday (14,404 steps) - Work in the office. Another crazy busy day. Read on the treadmill at lunch, then took Olive for a walk when I got home.
Friday (16,055 steps) - Wash Park and Stella's!
Work in the office. Read my book on the treadmill at lunch. Nothing else
Saturday (10,622 steps) - Had maybe planned to run, then decided I would rather not since I was enjoying my last few weeks of NOT running. Ariel and I went to the salon. I got toes done and she got nails done.
Ben and I took Olive for a walk. Ben and I went to get lunch at Salsa's. They had a change in ownership and now they do frosted beer mugs!
Also - you don't have to pay for chips & salsa anymore. They have added a lot of outdoor seating, but it was too cold to sit outside.
Rushed home to get Olive to take her for her grooming appointment. While she was getting her hair cut we went to 4 Noses. Kristin and Doug showed up, which was a fun surprise. Olive did very well for her second grooming and even came out sporting a new bandana.
Sunday (10,782 steps) - Another day of being a sloth! No recollection of the morning, but Ben and I got Ziggi's on our way up to Boulder for him to finally get some new running shoes.

We went to Torchy's for a quick lunch, then I headed down to Denver for Brittany's baby shower. There is a group photo floating around somewhere, but the only picture I took was this for Be Real:

I headed home when it was starting to get dark. Ben and I went to 4 Noses.
Monday (19,144 steps) - I had taken the day off, so spent the morning... doing nothing. I think Ariel and I got coffee. I had plans to run, and I figured I should try on the Ultraventure 3's since I knew the Topo friends and family sale would be coming up in a few days. I AM SO GLAD I DID. The fit is completely different than the 2's (that I love so much) and was way too big. Not to mention the sole is different and will not be great for technical trails. UGH. So, I went for my first training run since before Katy. I had an hour on schedule, and it seemed fine, although I was definitely glad it was over. Took Olive for a walk at lunch. I decided I had to go back to Runners Roost to try on the Ultraventure in a smaller size to see if that would work. They didn't have anything at all under a 7.5 (I normally wear a 7, but wanted to try the 6.5) so then I headed over to REI since they had it in stock. The fit seemed better and I guess I can use for flatter and less technical running. What a pain in the ass!!!

Since Ariel had plans with her friends for her actual birthday, we wanted to take her out for a family dinner. She had picked Kokopelli for dinner and we drove over to meet Ben and it was closed (ugh) so we ended up going to BJ's.

Stats:

Week in Review (May 16 - May 22)

Tuesday (10,774 steps) - Work in the office. Did my cross training at lunch, and finally used the building's Peloton! I'm glad I mentioned it to Ben and asked about having to bring in my own shoes to clip in - turns out they have baskets!
It was a pretty night out, thanks to another afternoon rain storm.
Wednesday (18,173 steps) - Work in the office. Went for a walk at lunch. After work I hurried up to Boulder to meet up with Tyler for a run. It was a bit humid, and I had planned on "hiking" pace for my first run since Coco, but it didn't end up working out that way.

PLUS - WE SAW TWO BEARS.

Stopped at the store long enough to chat with Kyla and Gemini and have a sparkling water, then headed home for dinner with Ariel.
Thursday (10,460 steps) - My birthday - wooo. Still was a work from home day. Ariel took me to get a pedicure at lunch (finally fixed my janky toenails from the last pedicure - which was when Heather visited in JANUARY).
Took Olive for walk at lunch, and kinda got caught in a rain/thunderstorm. BUT, we saw the first owl of the season!

Ariel had graduation stuff, so after work I went with Ben to 4 Noses. They were doing a special BBQ for mug club people (us!), so that was a nice (free) dinner.
Friday (16,975 steps) - Walk at Wash Park and coffee! Pete bought my drink and a cinnamon roll, yum!
AND, Nicole and I finally went to lunch for our birthdays. We went to Capital Grille, and it was DELICIOUS. Especially this cake.
Rushed home after work to do last minute packing for our camping weekend! We got out maybe by 6, which wasn't too bad, all things considered. It was raining in the mountains, and we even got some snow near the tunnel. Woof. Don't want a repeat of last year! Stopped at Outer Range.

BEAUTIFUL night
Had to stop at Safeway on the way to the campground to get some groceries and firewood.
We ended up having a VERY late dinner!
Saturday (25,405 steps) - Up early, but didn't sleep great, unfortunately.
Went into town to Whole Foods to get coffee and breakfast. Then, we were off to do the run that I had route around the peninsula. It was thankfully not as smoky as Denver (from the fires in Canada), but it was a bit cloudy. Warmer than expected, and we were both really grateful to be in the mountains!

Went to Outer Range and then back to the campground for a bit. I picked a Mexican restaurant in Frisco for my birthday dinner and it was delicious!! We ended up watching "You" in the camper when it got colder because Ben still hasn't seen the most recent season. Made it until about 10 before I just couldn't keep my eyes open.
Sunday (24,888 steps) - Woke up pretty early again, didn't sleep great. Since we had to check out of the campground by noon, we opted to do the run early. Was supposed to do 2 hours, but that really wasn't in the cards. We called it about 90 minutes in. Nice day, though!

Got back, had birthday (carrot) cake for breakfast and loaded everything up. Stopped at Mountain Dweller (Outer Range) for coffee before heading home. For the first time in probably years, ZERO traffic going home. It was nice. Got everything unpacked, took Olive for a walk.
Monday (24,647 steps) - Work from home. I did my run early, thankfully, because it wasn't that smoky. I haven't been out to the lake in probably a month because of all the rain. Nice to see that the rangers are still fucking everything up:
Took Olive for a walk. and nearly was hit in the crosswalk - even WITH hitting the flashing pedestrian crossing lights. Maybe my outfit isn't bright enough?

Ariel had to work so I had an Amazon Watch Party with Ben. It was kinda neat, but I got disconnected from the Wifi about halfway through so that was irritating.

Week in Review (July 5 - July 11)

Tuesday (7,757 steps) - Peloton ride and core video before work.
Went for a walk at lunch to meet Josephine because she is lending me a book! Other than that, a pretty calm day and I didn't have to work at the second job. Wooo.
Wednesday (16,893 steps) - Work in the office, went for a walk at lunch. After work I headed up to Boulder for run club! I only had 5 miles on schedule (and NOT hills), so I figured I'd run the cow path. It was misting for the first couple miles and then a fairly decent rain for the last bit. I'll take that over the near triple digit temps any day.

I did end up taking more walk breaks than I'd like, but with some big climbing recently I'm not upset about it. Spent some time at the store after chatting with Tyler and Sandy.
Thursday (12,516 steps) - Work from home. Long walk at lunch again. Worked second job. The end.
Friday (21,374 steps) - Actually made it to Wash Park for a walk with the gang - first time in a REALLY long time. Walk was pleasant and coffee delicious! Worked in the office. Walked to REI at lunch because they actually have the new Rabbit skirt in stock and I'm still waiting for mine. I tried it on when I got back to the office and it seems like it fits fine with nothing in the pockets and no movement, but I'm betting I need a smaller size. Went to second job - warned Diego that I may not be continuing this employment too long... we will see.
Saturday (34,205 steps) - Up INSANELY early so that I could drive to Leadville! Got out the door on time, and stopped in Georgetown at the rest area to use the bathroom. My stomach was feeling a bit off so I sent Kristin a text to see if she might have some Tums or Pepto. Rest of the drive was uneventful and I found the trail head without any issues. I missed the text from Kristin asking me to text when I got to town - everyone but me and Cooper had camped the night before. It was a few minutes before they ran down the road to meet up. And then off we went!

Right from the start I knew it was going to be a rough day. I started in the back, where I would be the entire day. My legs didn't want to run the easy parts and I was struggling with the climbs more than everyone else.

The group waited for me at the bridge that crosses the river. SO PRETTY!
Interestingly, the next section of climbing didn't seem as bad to me, I'm not sure why the lower part seemed so brutal. It was getting warmer, but I really enjoyed being in the trees.

When we finally got out of the "forest" section I could kinda see where we were going - and it wasn't nearly as far as I thought, which was good.

When we got close to the summit we could see Joe waiting for us at the top. Cooper and Tyler had already continued down the other side, but Joe said they were only maybe 10 minutes ahead of us. That's not bad, considering how slow I felt like we were moving. We stayed at the summit for a few minutes and I ate part of my sandwich. Every picture I've seen of Hope Pass has prayer flags, but there were not any up there.
Terri was only planning on continuing for another mile or so, and Kristin was intent on getting her 20 miles in. I figured I would hang out with Kristin. The initial switchbacks off the summit were quite pleasant to jog down.

We got to a rock field before dropping into the more wooded section.
I did not enjoy this part, really at all. It was hot and humid feeling and the grade of the trail seemed REALLY steep. I cannot believe that people actually do this in the Leadville 100. This was not fun for me at all. We got to a trail junction and I figured that we would be going towards Winfield, but Kristin headed toward Sheep Gulch because she thought Tyler and Cooper would be finishing up their miles on the road before heading up. I was hot and didn't actually need the miles (just the vert), so I told Kristin I was going to turn around and head back since I knew I was going to be slow anyway.
I was sitting on a rock in the shade when I heard people coming and I was SO HAPPY when I saw it was Tyler and Cooper! They were definitely faster than me (Tyler moreso than Cooper, which was a bit odd), but they made sure I wasn't too far back and it made the climb probably a bit less awful. Although I will not sugarcoat it, the climb out was AWFUL. It was steep. It was hot. We stopped at every bit of water and dunked our hats and filled our filter bottles. Tyler powered on alone and Cooper and I kinda dragged behind heading back to the summit. Tyler got a decent picture of me hiking back up.
We stayed a bit longer than we planned at the top. I was eating, Cooper was lying down and Tyler was being really chatty and friendly with the the other people up there. Randomly got in a conversation with a group of people that are crewing a friend at Bigfoot. This would have been good training for that, in retrospect. I let Cooper and Tyler take the lead on the way down, and did a decent amount of running down. The Twin Lakes side is the best side, if you can only do one, by the way.
I felt pretty good the whole way down, and we were able to get down a lot sooner than I thought we would have. Thankfully, the river was right by where we parked and I'm glad I had my Chacos so that I could walk out into the water a bit and soak my feet. It was freaking fantastic.
I headed over to where everyone was camping and chatted with Terri and Tyler, and had a beer. Eventually I decided it was time to head back to Denver, although I stopped on the way out of town at Silver Rush. The Roost had a big tent out and I talked with Sandy and Jeannene a bit. No free beer so there wasn't a ton keeping me there. I ended up meeting Ben at Malone's for dinner. I ordered way too much food and wasn't able to finish most of it. I figured I would be a lot more hungry after all that activity.
Sunday (15,584 steps) - Slept too late and completely messed up for my run. It was well over 90 degrees when I headed out before 10 am. My legs felt like complete garbage after all the hiking. I was supposed to be doing a 90 minute endurance run with pick-ups and barely just got through the time. It was a disaster and really pretty miserable.

It was too hot to take Pika for a walk. Ben and I went to the new Colorado Tap House and had some beer and food truck tacos and nachos. Watched a movie. The end?
Monday (16,952 steps) - Up early for a run! I had a goal of 500+ feet of climbing so I headed over to North Table. I planned on starting from the trail head, but there is no bathroom, so I ended up having to walk over to the baseball field to use theirs. What an amazing sunrise I was treated to!
Legs were still trash, so I didn't run much of the initial miles. I was SO happy that it was literally 35 degrees cooler than Sunday's run, and I couldn't stop taking pictures of the sunrise.

The trails were also WEIRDLY deserted. I didn't see anyone for the first 3 or 4 miles of the run - which is very VERY rare on this trail - it's normally completely crowded with runners, hikers and especially cyclists.
Once I got to the top I easy jogged the flats and the rest of the way down the canyon.

It was a truly spectacular morning, and even though the running part was probably not as good as I would have liked, I had a great time. Made it home with plenty of time to shower and get coffee before starting my work day. Ben booked me a pedicure - a very rare treat.
Took Pika for a walk. After I got done with work, sat around for a bit until it was time to go to the airport to pick Ariel up from her trip! Two weeks flew by, not just for me, but for her. Traffic was horrible (like usual), but we got there on time. Her friend stopped by and we had a fairly late dinner. A long day!

Snow Mountain Ranch 33k (Race Recap)

Saturday, September 12 Granby, CO Weather - Partly cloudy and cool I had some credits from deferring my Coldwater entry a while back AND fro...
