Week in Review (February 10 - February 16)

Tuesday (11,989 steps) - Peloton and Olive walk before going to work in the office. Went to the gym at lunch and did StairMaster, strength training and a short walk on the treadmill.
Took Olive for a walk when I got home and sauna. We watched some Olympics - men's Freestyle, which was fun. Then Following.
Wednesday (24,173 steps) - Olive walk before work.
Olive looking very cute waiting for her last Christmas cookie
Did a walk on the treadmill at lunch. After work I headed up to Boulder for my hill workout. Was starting to feel like I'm coming down with a cold so wasn't looking forward to it. Definitely overdressed, but actually ran "faster" than the last time I did this workout in December.
Also got to finally try out my new UltrAspire waist light. Different than the Kogalla and will take some getting used to.
Ben had dinner ready when I got home. Following and early to bed.
Thursday (18,091 steps) - Work from home. Peloton ride in the morning before taking Olive for a longer walk at lunch (had to stop by Tyler's on the way home) and then I did run after.
Quick upper body and sauna. Met Ben at Torchy's for dinner and an Olive walk. We watched the replay of women's Freestyle finals and then Following, which we finished. The show definitely had room for growth, but it's been nearly a decade since it was on so I guess that's just how it ended.
Friday (12,289 steps) - Olive walk before going to work in the office.
MOM, I'M BORED, LET'S WALK NOW
Took Olive for a walk at lunch and finally cashed the savings bonds I've had sitting around for a few years. After work I dropped Olive off at home and met Ben at 4 Noses for NA happy hour and dinner. Watched some Olympics and started a new show - Beast in Me.
Saturday (33,398 steps) - Lounged around and took Olive for a long walk to the lake.
We had plans to meet Terri for a run, but I wanted to get some extra mileage, so I did a few miles beforehand. We did a route that I have only done once before - and we had a TON of snow. Weather was much better, albeit a bit warm.

After the run we went to Mudrocks for lunch - I got a delicious bowl of mac and cheese and actually had to bring half of it home.
Ben and I took Olive for a walk when we got back home, sauna, watched women's Big Air qualifications and more Beast in Me.
Sunday (17,041 steps) - Headed up to Boulder for another vert day. Cannot believe how warm it is for mid-February. I used my new UltrAspire Mountain Racer belt for the day. Easily able to carry an 800ml flask (which was basically for Olive). Hoping to use this as an "add-on" to my new Traverse pack for 200s. The new waist light I got is compatible with it, plus there are bungees in the back that can hold poles or extra gear. PLUS, a ton of pockets.

Absolutely the only square foot of snow we saw the whole time!

Afterwards, we headed to Rails End. There was no food truck so Ben dropped me and Olive off at home and went to Costco to pick up a pizza. Sauna, more Olympics and Beast in Me.
Monday (22,128 steps) - Still feeling sick, so was really glad to sleep late and work from home. I was throwing in a load of laundry when I noticed the utility sink was filled with dirty water. That should have been a clue, but I didn't realize the problem until I went to pull laundry out and the washer didn't drain. UGH - WE JUST HAD THIS ISSUE LAST SPRING. Had to call out a sewer/plumber guy. While I was waiting for him (and Ariel to show up for me to do her taxes), I took Olive for a walk to the lake. At least this time the guy was professional, showed up quickly and got the work done quickly for half the price I was charged last time. Went for my run - another freakishly nice day out, and the run was not bad at all. Showered and finished up my day. After work I went to Jared to get my ring inspected and then home for a walk with Olive. Ben ordered pho for dinner.
We watched more Olympics - women's Big Air finals and more Beast in Me.

  • 16.74 miles walked

Week in Review (December 5 - December 11)

Tuesday (15,383 steps) - Peloton before work. Picked what I thought was going to be a total body workout at lunch and it ended up being mostly upper body again. Walked quite a bit on the treadmill desk.
Wednesday (19,361 steps) - Work in the office. Treadmill desk, read at lunch. A vendor delivered Crumbl cookies, and I thoroughly enjoyed half of each of these:
Headed home after work, took Olive for a quick walk. Kristin picked me and Ariel up so we could go BACK downtown for the annual holiday light run with Runners Edge! For the second year we were going to be starting closer to Ball Arena and would have a lot to park in - which is so nice! It was once again a really nice night!

I loved that the horse had painted hooves!!

A pretty great picture -- and can't believe no one ruined our shot!

Alex had gotten a photo booth again, and as always, it's so fun to do those!

We had the ramen truck again - it is soooo good, and part of the event is that the food is free! We stuck around for a bit socializing, but it was getting pretty late so we were some of the first to head out.
Thursday (18,739 steps) - Work from home. Ariel and I went to get Dutch (I'm pretty obsessed with the candy cane cold brew right now) and then I had to go for my run. I had 14x70 "sprints" to do. Still being sore from the race, I wasn't super psyched about this one, PLUS, it was really windy. It went better than expected (and I appreciated I had a wide pace range).
Took Olive for a walk at lunch.
We had an exciting mail day! Ariel finally got her "hard copy" acceptance from Mines in the mail - which she said finally makes it official!
Friday (24,774 steps) - I was on the fence about going to walk in the morning since it was supposed to be cold, but since I woke up with time, I drove down. It ended up actually being quite a nice morning! Also, really enjoying the holiday menu at Stella's.

No recollection of the day, other than doing a lot of walking on the treadmill desk. Did a short core video and read my book at lunch. After work, we went to 4 Noses for one (seriously) beer - my first one in two weeks! Went to Costco to pick up a pizza for dinner and get groceries.
Saturday (25,956 steps) - We woke up to 5" of fresh snow and a planned long run that we were NOT looking forward to. We were to be meeting Tyler, Larry and Terri at Teller Farms for a run of undetermined distance. Terri claimed it shouldn't be "that bad."

So running in fresh snow sucks. It is chunky and slippery and about 10 times the effort of whatever the terrain would normally be. There were not a lot of people out (which was not a surprise) and we were some of the first people out. Thankfully, it was not windy and actually not as cold as I thought it might be.

Greg had given me a progression run of 3.5 hours. Ben stopped at 8 miles, saying that was plenty, but I continued on to get 10, because I agreed with Terri that driving that far deserved at least double digits. With the conditions, it took us a LONG time. We decided to get brunch. I had to add this picture of Tyler eating bacon - he used to be vegetarian!

Ben and I stopped at 4 Noses on the way home, then made Teriyaki for dinner since A was working. We watched random stuff. At some point I must have stubbed my toe because it hurt so bad by the time I went to bed.
Sunday (12,201 steps) - Up early to go to the Runners Roost team party. I offered to drive and picked Tyler up at 8:20 to get to the Denver store. Ben had taped my toes (apparently the only thing you CAN do if you break a toe?) and I was going to try to run. Unfortunately, I had to stop and turn around after about 10 minutes because it hurt. Ugh. This is annoying. Didn't take any pictures at the "party" and we got back home in time to take Olive for a lunch walk. Went to Torchy's for lunch. No idea what else.
Monday (12,264 steps) - Work from home. I didn't have any run on schedule since I had told Greg what happened with my toe, and we agreed walking and recovering was for the best. I took Olive for a three mile walk at lunch. Watched Get Out! while working. Glad I did the long walk earlier, as it was pretty cold by the time I took Olive for the second walk after I was off work. Dinner at home and Fargo.

Stats:
  • 128,678 steps
  • 21.68 miles run
  • 30 minutes of cardio
  • 35 minutes of strength

Outdoor Training Run - Teller Farms - Sunday, July 18

Sunday long run... this one was different because I actually went running with BOTH of my sisters (which is a rarity). I met up with L at her work and then we drove to west Boulder to meet W at the Teller Farms trailhead. It looked overcast, so we were hoping the temps would stay down a bit. Without planning, all of us were wearing combos of pink and black. Matchy, matchy! We headed out around 2:45 pm, and immediately I was happy to be on yet another different trail:

Five minutes in, we started getting rained on. It came down hard and fast (with a little hail). I'd take the rain (and yes, even hail) over 90+ degree temps and no shade any day!  The first 30 minutes were regular "run" pace, which W and L kept a bit slower (probably to humor me, I am slower than they are). The next 30 minutes were tempos (? or intervals?) - 1 minute fast (5K race pace) and 2 minutes slow (regular "run" pace). That did make for time going by faster, and I really appreciated those 2 slower minutes!

During one of the walk breaks after we got done with tempo (? intervals?), I took this shot - which shows the storm we ran through earlier:

At the last turnaround we were "running" (and I use that term loosely, I was barely moving faster than a walk) up a steep grade. We ran across a plateau in the open space:

And I encountered something besides weeds!

Stopped my Garmin at just under 1 hour 40 minutes (which included some stops, bathroom break, etc) and logged 8.81 miles. They were not easy! This was actually the shortest long run I've done in a few months, but I worked hard.

We had a few blocks to walk to get back to the car (through some pretty tall wild grass). I bet I got a thousand mosquito bites in just those few minutes. W realized at the parking lot that she had her car key... for the car she did NOT drive. And it was the one time she actually locked the car. Whoops :D
