Week in Review (June 19 - June 25)

Tuesday (13,680 steps) - Barre Express with Gabi. Hadn't planned on running, but then Ang asked if we were going to Sloan's, so we ended up heading over. We started early in hopes of catching up with her, but we never crossed paths. The sky looked pretty sketchy, and we did get rained on a bit, but nothing terrible. While we were waiting for everyone else to get back it started hailing. Thankfully, we were parked in the garage.
It was way more dramatic than it looks in this pic
Wednesday (23,335 steps) - Runners Roost Boulder!
With all the storms that we have had we had to do a weird route that kept us off the single track. I wasn't the VERY last on some of the climbs and had a decently strong back half. After this run they are going to start separating out the slow/fast runners - I think that will ease my stress a bit on these runs as I'm very obviously one of the (if not THE) slowest people here.
Thursday (14,789 steps) - Met up with some people in Berkeley for the Summer Solstice water balloon/gun fight (and also got in a 3.5ish mile run).
A TON of fun, and the gal who was buying some of my declutter stuff met us there, so I even made some money (*which, as a side note, I'll need to use to fix A's iPad - her screen cracked in a freak accident earlier). Womp.
Friday (11,622 steps) - Barre with Kelly. On my way to the studio, I dropped A off at Lisa's house. She was taking the day off work to go hiking, and A got to go with her. While I had to work. Stupid adulting.
Picture of other people hiking...
We hung out with Lisa until about 6, before we left to drop off A's iPad to get fixed.
Saturday (37,011 steps) - We had a chance to run a race for only $20, but it was way down in Castle Rock, so I opted to just run in my next of the woods. I had 14 on schedule (my longest run since mid-May), and thankfully, Kristin said she would join me for 10 of those. I ran a few miles before picking Kristin up, and we magically created a route that was exactly the mileage needed.
I had just enough time to shower before we headed to the Rockies game. We had tickets through my work, which included lunch and $20 per person for snacks/drinks during the game. It was SO hot, but we stayed the whole game. It was a lot of fun!
First 15,000 fans got a cool commemorative jersey!
On the way back to the car we picked up cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory and I grabbed a burger and sweet potato fries from Smashburger (I haven't been there in ages). Bed EARLY.
Sunday (22,981 steps) - Team run! Unfortunately, it was way down in Aurora. Thankfully, Othman was also planning on 10, so we (along with Alex & Stella), ran 10 into the park.

I should have taken pictures on the trail, it was actually really pretty! I seem to only run out there when everything is brown. After the run we took Maureen out for food/drinks for her birthday at Dads and Dudes. Got caught in a nasty rain storm on the way home. A had a Scout meeting. I did (nothing?) except a few Fitness Blender videos (wow, I haven't done those in ages). We had Tokyo Joe's for dinner, and early to bed again.
Monday (16,332 steps) - New Terrain run club! Lisa joined us (I haven't run with her since last summer) - so that was nice. We stayed after long enough for a drink, but left early so we could eat dinner at a "reasonable" hour.

Stats:

  • 139,750 steps
  • 42.7 miles run
  • 2 barre classes & 20 minutes of videos

Week in Review (September 13 - September 19)

Tuesday (17,902 steps) - Since I had skipped my run Monday, I decided to set my alarm and see how I felt and if I would go out. I decided to run, and when I got outside I saw it had rained. I skipped running to the lake and did the loop around the neighborhood. I consciously ran slow and steady and it turned out to be a pretty good run.
Leaves, they are a-changing!
During lunch I went to Laura's barre "Fuzed" class again, and it was just as challenging as I remembered. A lot different than regular classes and I was sweating like crazy when we were done. After work (and soccer for A), took A to gymnastics. She had a substitute who didn't seem to mind spotting the kids (unlike her regular coach). She has really gained a lot of confidence! Dinner at home, A fell asleep when we were watching TV after.
Wednesday (24,332 steps) - Instead of going to run club after work, A and I headed over to Bear Creek for the Lakewood Trail Series race. A did not want to run, but I figured I would go for the "long" distance, which was about 5.2 miles. The race was only $25, and the weather was perfect.
I gotta say, I have gotten so slow, I'm way out of my element! I started towards the back, and was getting passed by pretty much everyone right of the gate. My legs/butt were a bit sore from Laura's barre class, and my calves were tight.
The course was pretty great, until I realized that we were going to have to go up and around Mt. Carbon! I had to do a bit more walking than I would have liked, and I was concerned that if I got to the base of Mt. Carbon that they would make me do the short course since I was slow. The organizers said they didn't want anyone out on the course in the dark (and I hadn't brought my head lamp).

As dusk came in, I could hear the coyotes, and I was totally alone when the girl I was chasing turned off for the short course. There was a bit of congestion when I was going up and the faster runners were coming down. I felt a LOT better on the way down and managed to run most of the way back, stopping only briefly to get a picture of some deer, and some quick walk breaks maybe a mile out.
I was, I think, the third to last finisher in 1:04:47. We stayed at the finish while Mo finished her beer, and then we headed home.
Thursday (17,211 steps) - When I went downstairs in the morning I noticed a large amount of water pooling under my water heater. I took pictures and sent them to Carl - he told me to clean up all the water, and if it was still wet when I got home to call him. Yippee.
Went to a barre class with Meredith, small, only two of us! Which basically meant that she worked us to death. After work/school, we went down to Belmar to walk with Mo on the last night before her surgery.

A won the first raffle (but they don't let minors collect at the Belmar store, so *I* actually won) - a pair of CW-X compression tights!

We went to Rocko's after for nachos, leaving around 8 for homework, etc. Turns out, water heater still leaking. After face timing with Carl, he determined I needed a new water heater. FANTASTIC.
Friday (12,367 steps) - Spent the morning trying to get a hold of someone that might be able to swap out my water heater. Got a quote from a friend of Heather Baxter's. I ended up leaving work around 3 to home to meet up with the guy, he swapped them out in just about 90 minutes, all for the lovely low price of $1,165. Womp, womp, womp. Picked A up from school, then went grocery shopping. Only to realize I had left my wallet on the coffee table after paying the guy. Whoops. We got all our gear ready for hiking the next morning and went to bed around 9.
Saturday (19,665 steps) - 3:33 wake up call. Finished grabbing all of our stuff for hiking and picked up Lisa at her house around 4:15 am. The drive to Fairplay was uneventful, until we couldn't figure out where to turn for the trail head. We found it eventually, then drove the 11 or so miles on the dirt road (not as bad as some of the dirt roads we have been on), ready to start our hike just before 7:00. We were dressed for cold, as it was only in the mid 20's. We had picked Mt. Sherman for A's first 14er. It was only 5.25 miles round trip, and was deemd "easier" than others. I, of course, forgot 1). the map (again), and 2). my sunglasses!! I was so sad when the sun came over the horizon and I had nothing to wear. Dang it!!

We stopped about a mile up and had our first snacks. Shortly after that was when we got to the saddle and it got a bit colder and super windy. A sort of freaked out when we got to the last section where we had to scramble a bit and the trail got more narrow. Due to the wind gusts, she was afraid of being blown off the mountain, so she wanted to stay super close to me.

On the saddle

Luckily, when we got to the top, the wind stopped. We were able to enjoy about a half hour on the summit before heading down.

You know what I wish I had? SUNGLASSES.
Thanks Lisa, for letting me borrow your sunglasses for this picture!
The first 20 minutes or so on the way down were SO MISERABLE. It was even windier than the way up and it was COLD. I was for sure concerned that we might get frost bite! We even huddled behind some rocks to get a break from the wind and try to warm ourselves. When we finally got down below the saddle the weather/temperature improved immensely.

We got back to the car in only about 4.5 hours! A did totally awesome and said she would be up to doing another one... next year.
Changing leaves!!
We went to the South Park brewery, where we played a game of Clue and had lunch. Lisa and I enjoyed S'mores Stout beers, and A had a root beer. We dropped Lisa off around 3:45, then went over to Heather's house to pick up tickets for the Rockies game. By the time we had dinner and watched some TV, we were both exhausted and were in bed before 9.
Sunday (22,653 steps) - Got up around 7:30, getting over 10 hours of (much needed) sleep. A made eggs and pumpkin pancakes for breakfast while I cleaned up the house and finally bagged up all the items we were planning on donating. We left the house around 10:15, dropped off everything at Goodwill, then drove down to Bear Creek where A was doing some horseback riding with her Girl Scout troop.

While they were riding, I went for a run. I picked a bad time to go, it was the sunniest ever and over 80 degrees! For whatever reason, I retraced my steps from the trail race earlier in the week and ran up Mt. Carbon. Still hard, every time.
A and the troop were done by 12:30, and we headed over to Coors Field for the Rockies game! Sundays they have brunch in the clubhouse, and I managed to control my starvation, only having a burrito and a few other items. Not nearly as much as I normally have. We were only able to stay for the first 4 innings, as we had a barre class at 4:15.

Andrea was doing her last free class, so A got to join me. It was pretty challenging and fun.
On the way home we stopped at Target for a few more grocery items. Homework, dinner, in bed pretty early.
Monday (15,375 steps) - Rest day! Uneventful day at work and school for both of us, and luckily, a night of nothing to do (except homework).

Stats:
  • 129,505 steps
  • 12.3 miles run
  • 3 barre classes, walking and hiking (again!)
  • Current weight - 122.6. I've been pretty careful about not pigging out. I think it also helps that I went the entire week without having beer (except for ONE the day we went hiking).
Everything Else:

  • Replacing a water heater is freaking expensive. So annoyed that when Carl visited that he didn't think I needed to do it any time soon. Had he installed, it would have saved me like $600. Grrrr.
  • Related: I'm out of money from the house proceeds. Really need to get back into having a budget. WHICH FUCKING SUCKS.

Week in Review (June 7 - June 13)

Tuesday (20,374 steps) - Legs were tired after the trail race and lower body video. However, I forced myself to get out of bed. I'm in limbo with no training plan right now, but I had a goal of 5 miles. Legs were NOT cooperating and I did 4 miserable miles.
Made it home with enough time to do an upper body video. After I picked up A from camp we went to Hu Hot for dinner because I had a parent meeting with A's scout troop. The meeting ended up lasting almost 2 hours, but I think it was very productive and I'm pretty excited for what is in store for the girls next school year.
Wednesday  (17,747 steps) - EXHAUSTED. Got up with enough time to do a pilates video and a new-to-me abs video that I liked. Run club - which THANKFULLY, was way cooler than forecasted.
Heather met up with us for dinner at Noodles.
Thursday (19,297 steps) - Went for a 3+ mile run by the lake at 6:15 in the morning. Felt incredibly hot and humid and sunny. Blah.
We arranged for A to go to gymnastics right after camp at 5 pm so that we could go to Ladies' Night at Runners Roost. Seriously one of my favorite events!

Getting rid of this dress. Ugh. Looks so bad!!
We got awesome discounts on Lole gear, there was ice cream (I had salted butterscotch!) and Nuun with champagne. Fun night! We went to Hacienda for nachos with Heather and Maureen. (Seriously, weight gain is a mystery).
Friday (15,527 steps) - REST DAY!! We had happy hour at work, which would have been more enjoyable if I hadn't been bombarded with work right at the end of the day. Finally, A and I had a "night of nothing" - other than picking up groceries at Target.
Saturday (22,790 steps) - Runners Edge summer kick off! Drove down to Denver, wishing we were starting earlier than 7 am. So hot and sunny! I ended up running 6 miles, all of which felt pretty good.
Can you spot me? (Photo: Runner's Edge)
Chatted with Doug and Lisa at the store for a bit, got gas and a car wash, then drove to Golden top pick up my packet for Revel. Managed to get to the expo right when it started and was in and out in a few minutes. My tire light has been coming on somewhat regularly for the last few months so I stopped at Big O and had them look at it. Turns out I had a huge concrete nail in it. Maybe THAT'S why the light keeps coming on... They also said I need new tires soon. Of course I do. Got home, quick shower, lunch at Tokyo Joe's, and then picked up Rose and Madi for the Rockies game. We had great seats, but unfortunately we were in the sun. With it being 93 degrees, the seats were literally burning us! We kept moving around throughout the game trying to stay cool. It was a pretty good game - Rockies won!

For dinner, A talked me into going to Godfather's pizza. The wait wasn't that long and we devoured a BBQ chicken pizza. So good, but pricey.
Sunday (34,360 steps) - Revel Rockies half marathon.
After I dropped off Maureen, A and I headed home. She'd had a few donuts for breakfast and wasn't hungry. I took a shower and had a frozen dinner to tide me over. We drove to Heather's house to go to yet another Rockies game. It was in the mid 80's, but felt much cooler than the last game. We had brunch in the clubhouse and then watched the game. Rockies won again!
Spent a few minutes at Heather's house, but we were exhausted so we went home, stopping to pick up a few groceries on the way home. I fell asleep on the couch around 8 pm. So exhausted!!
Monday (16,638 steps) - Slept until my alarm went off, which is rare. I still had a slight headache when I woke up, even with going to bed ridiculously early. A started a new summer camp this week so we had to be out the door by 7, therefore, no morning workout. Too tired for a real workout so A and I did some yoga and a new abs video (that I didn't really like all that much).

Stats:
  • 146,733 steps
  • 32.2 miles run
  • No cross training
  • 87 minutes of strength/stretching
  • Weekly Gain 0.8 (128.2) - Not a surprise after my weekend, just depressing seeing the scale head that way.
Everything Else:
  • Took on another Director at work and I've been a lot busier the last few weeks, which is a good thing! I hate being bored.
  • A finished up gymnastics camp last week and had a great time, other than spending all her days inside.
  • Not much else.

Week in Review (July 14 - July 20)

Tuesday  (13,261 steps) - Quick Peloton ride and Olive walk before going to work. Of note, it's interesting that the mileage for our det...
