June Rewind

Miles Run - 102.64 (This is a ridiculously low number considering over 65 miles of it was racing. I've been struggling with my training runs.)
Races Run - 4 (3 half marathons, 1 marathon)
PR's Set - Big. Fat. Zero.
Minutes of Plank - 54 (I only missed THREE days of planks. I think I'll have to up the challenge for July).

What. Is. Happening.

Seriously.

I guess this is burn out?? I don't know if it is the racing. I don't know if it is the travel. I don't know if it is the obligation to get my training runs in.

But.

I am struggling. Big time. I feel tired all the time. I used to be able to run for an hour pretty easily on the treadmill doing fairly hardcore hill programs. Now even running flat it feels nearly impossible to even run for 20 minutes.

I've pulled back a little on running and added back in the stairmaster (that is a tough workout, don't let anyone tell you otherwise), doing more cycling and of course more rowing. Not much weight training anymore.

I don't know what to do. I have a few races left and then I'm off racing for four weeks. FOUR. WHOLE. WEEKS. with no racing.

Bleh.

  1. Oh, burnout sucks. I know I just went through a period where my legs just felt heavy and no matter how fast I thought I was running, it was nowhere near as fast as it should have been. Hope you get out of the funk soon!

  2. It sounds like 4 weeks off from racing might be what your body needs.

  3. It sure took a long time for you to feel burnt out! The break will be good physically - hopefully mentally you can handle a month without a race. Heck, I get twitchy after 2 weeks without a race. You'll be back and setting PRs again in no time at all!
