Week in Review (May 20 - May 26)

Tuesday (13,469 steps) - Peloton ride and Olive walk before going to work. Gym at lunch was StairMaster and strength training.
Took Olive for a walk when I got home. We made tacos for dinner. Handmaid's Tale!
Wednesday (24,761 steps) - Olive walk before going to work. After work I drove over to North Table so I could do my hill workout. I was supposed to find a hill of about a 20% grade and Ben suggested the North Table Loop heading towards the waterfall. I was able to get in a decent warmup and the first few sprints (they averaged about 33-35 seconds) felt easy enough that I wasn't even sure I was going to be able to get a decent workout in. After the first set of 10 I was already incredibly tired. There were quite a few bikes coming down (ZERO yielded) and hikers both going up/down that I would have to wait for since I was "sprinting" up. I was part way into m second set when I saw Kevin and we chatted for a few minutes before he finished off his workout. I was really psyched to be done with sprints and jogged down to New Terrain where I met Ben for a beer.

This might not look that steep, but (including the mile-ish to get to the hill) I did over 1300' of vert!
Since A was working late we went to Torchy's for dinner and then didn't get home until 8:30. 8:30!!!!
Thursday (15,579 steps) - Work from home! Ariel and I went to Dutch and then did laundry and started packing. Took Olive back to the dog park and we did our big loop - Olive was excited to get to go back in the river! More packing when I got back home. Did a delivery close to the house, some cleaning and then Ben and I went to 4 Noses to meet up with Tyler (visiting from Florida) and Jeramiah. Ariel joined us so we could feed her dinner from the food truck - we shared a chicken tender sandwich and fries, which was delicious! Criminal Minds when we got home and in bed too late.
Friday (12,493 steps) - Wash Park with Olive and the gang. Work in the office. Our office closed early, so I headed out at 3:00 to meet Tami in Edgewater. She graciously offered to take Olive for the week that we will be gone on the cruise. On the way home I hoped to pick up some deliveries, but didn't get anything. I ended up meeting Ariel at Torchy's for some queso and a beer. Once at home we did some last minute cleaning, had dinner and packing. We drove to my office to leave Ben's truck there for the week and then took a Lyft to the hotel we would be staying at near the airport. It was SO LATE by the time we got there thanks to a big accident. Ben and I had a Final Destination marathon and went to bed  crazy late.
Saturday (18,082 steps) - Up at 3 something in the morning to get ready and take the hotel shuttle to the airport. We got there just before 4 am. We had just one bag we planned on checking and there was thankfully no line at Alaska to do that. Security was a breeze and Ben and I picked up coffee and breakfast at Einstein's and we walked around to get steps in. We let the girls have our seats since they were together and Ben and I were a few rows apart. Flight left on time and I finally got around to finishing Yellowjackets. Such a crazy show!! Once we landed we kept in contact with Celine (Ben's mom) who had arranged an Uber for us to get to the port. It was such a smooth process! We were on our way and after a small amount of confusion we dropped all our bigger bags and walked over to Celine and Bill's (Ben's stepdad) hotel. We had a small snack, and then Ben and I walked down the road to a cute brewery "Here Today."
After a beer we walked back and started the embarkation process. It was a lot faster than I remembered from the cruises I have done before. Celine had booked us all on the Norwegian Bliss ("Bliss") - which was HUGE. It was also much warmer in Seattle than we expected, so we were all kind of miserable with our cold weather gear. Once we were all on, we went to lunch at Local.
Apparently it's a "thing" to have an appetizer, entree & dessert at every meal!
We still had to wait for all our cabin to be ready, so we walked around the ship to look at the gym, the various bars, etc. It was probably 3 pm before our room was ready - at which time we all put on different clothes. We finally left the port right on time at 4 pm and stayed on the deck to watch Seattle disappear.

We had dinner at the buffet, which I remember basically nothing about. Zero recollection of the rest of the evening, other than I slept like the dead after only getting a few hours of sleep the night before.
Sunday (11,578 steps) - This was our only day that we would not be getting off the ship. I had plans to hit the gym and get a workout in. Initially, we had planned to start at the jogging track, but after just a few laps around, we opted to head inside. Mainly because the deck was wet and I didn't want to slip - plus we had to keep dodging around people. Grabbed a treadmill and did a hill workout.
I was confused by what the programs "effort" was, and it was basically starting speed & then increased with incline. I had to lower that almost immediately. We only did a 22 minute workout, then moved on to a circuit Ben created. We were only able to do about 20 minutes before we were told there was going to be a class in there. All in all, an hourish workout. After showering we went to get breakfast at Local.
So many meals had a half a tomato as a garnishment - strange
Ben wanted a beer, but the tap room wasn't open. We got some drinks, went to the casino and then before I knew it, it was time to meet up with everyone for dinner.
After dinner we hurried to get to the Icons show, which was one of the things I definitely wanted to see. We got there a little late so it was standing room only, but still fun. After that was over we went to watch karaoke, which was fun, although it was mostly kids who butchered Taylor Swift songs. The sun doesn't set forever this far north, so it was almost 10 pm when I got this sunset shot.
Monday (18,317 steps) - We met everyone at Savor for breakfast. I'd had a rough night after so much drinking (the unlimited drink package was probably a mistake) and I wasn't that hungry, but the skillet I got was delicious.
While we were watching to get off the ship we did some laps around the trackWe wanted to go for  a walk along the water after taking the shuttle in Sitka into town. Bill joined us, but only for a few minutes before deciding to get back to the ship. We took some pictures with the girls before separating to do our own thing.

We went to the National Historic Park where there were some really nice trails to walk around.

There were no bears

We were getting hungry and decided to stop at a restaurant for a beer and some fish and chips. It took FOREVER to get our food (long enough we almost canceled our food order).
We spent some time talking to the bartender and he said there WAS a brewery in town. Somehow when we left the trails we missed it (if we would have gone the other direction on the road it would have only been a few minutes away. We decided if we were fast that we would have time to get 1-2 beers before having to rush back to the ship.
Outside of the brewery we went to in Seattle, this would be the best beer of the cruise! We actually also got some swag (shirts and a bottle opener) here.
Back in time for dinner (and dessert).

We definitely started a movie, although I can't remember which one, and we definitely fell asleep while watching it.

Stats:
  • 114,279 steps
  • 11.05 miles run
  • 17.06 miles walked
  • 35 minutes of cardio
  • 37 minutes of strength
