I rarely drink. But for New Years... I partied like it was 1999. Literally. I was 21 in 1999. Beer... wine... ugh.
I actually managed to make it until midnight, and that was mostly because the New Kids on the Block was performing with Backstreet Boys in Times Square (I know, I know, I'm a dork).
When I woke up the next morning though... Blah. I felt terrible. I forgot to drink something besides alcohol before going to sleep and I woke up with a major headache and was BEYOND thirsty. I met L for a quick lunch (and a great lunch it was too... Burger King - whopper jr. with no cheese or mayo, small fries and a salad). Then I headed to the gym. Why? I'm clearly insane and a glutton for punishment.
I rarely "warm up" when I have a run planned, but I was feeling like crap, so I walked for a few minutes before starting. It was bad and never really got better. I had forgotten my water bottle, but I did have one of those huge 32 oz. of Powerade. So every 20 minutes or so, I was pausing the machine to slam something to drink. Mostly, it was actually ok. Except for breaking out in a cold sweat and feeling like I was going to faint. I probably coulda/shoulda just stopped after an hour, but this was my long run of the week, so I suffered through an hour of "easy" hills (which were NOT easy) and finished out 9.18 miles in 90 minutes.
I don't do resolutions, but this work out was a reminder of WHY I don't "party" anymore. I feel much better when I don't.
Anyway, Happy New Year!

Ha! I can't believe you ran after drinking like that. You really are in good shape.
ReplyDeleteEek. Guess it's a good reminder ever once in a while.
ReplyDeleteProps to you for getting your run in, even when you felt like crap.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Impressive, considering your night out before your run! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I love you so much right now!! Seriously the reason I almost didn't race was because I HAD to see that NKOTBSB performance. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that you love them, too! I always feel like a little girl again when I hear NKOTB, and then I have college flashbacks and binge drinking flashbacks when I hear BSB. LOVE IT!!
No, seriously - I'm watching the video in a side window and I totally just squealed, said "YEAH!" and threw my hands up when I heard them say "Step by Step". Chills. Love them. I need to be their groupie.
ReplyDeleteYou are a trooper for STILL running after a long night! "Hanging Tough!" NKOTB baby!
ReplyDeleteIt's no fun running when you feel like crap. You're a rockstar for toughing it out!
ReplyDeleteWow, you're tough!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha! I'm with you on this one! :) Back in my '21 and partying the night away' days I could party my ass off and still feel fresh in the morning. Nowadays...not so much... Let's call these days my 'one glass of wine will cause a hangover' days...
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. I feel like crap for 2 days after, ahem, overindulging. I don't do it anymore. It's not worth it to me. Took me until I was 33 to figure that out. :)
