Nutrition

I have completely fallen off the wagon. I can usually reign in my cravings for sugar and processed foods, but as of lately? I am out of control. At work there is a candy box. I have been having little candy bars every day! I know I "shouldn't" be eating them, but they are there and so tasty!

Advice on how to keep my sweet tooth in check? I haven't been on a scale since I got back from Peru, so I don't know the damage. My weight is already up about 10 pounds from when I was at my peak training in March.

Sigh.

  1. Ugh. I get it completely. Today I had a milkshake. I don't remember the last time I indulged in one, but today I was at the mall, there was a Haagen Das and I paid $6.00 and downed a whole shake. Ridiculous!

The best way for me is to not have the junk around. Don't buy it so it isn't in the house. Stay away from the people who have it at work. I find that if I break down the day and can make it to early afternoon without sugar, then it isn't too much time until dinner. Then it's a matter of just avoiding dessert or having fruit instead of something sugary.

    Good luck!

  2. Avoiding it seems to be the best plan but at work that is hard. I brought in some hard candy to keep my mouth busy (can get sugar free kind if want) and I make a lot of tea to keep me feeling full. And I avoid the break room at all costs.

  3. Sugar free gum
    Brush your teeth
    Break the habit
Put a note on the mirror...or computer screen
Set an example for your coworkers

  4. Having your favorite fruits and yogurt available at your work desk helps for me. Always protein shakes help, they make feel fuller longer.

  5. For me, the more I eat sugar, the more I want sugar! Instead of appeasing a sweet tooth with fruit or gum or dried fruit, I go salty and drink water. After a day of no sweets I lay off it.

  6. I avoid most of the time, but definitely crave chocolate from time to time - like after I eat salty/fatty food, when I'm thirsty and 2 'distinct' days of the month. For these times, I like M&M's. I can eat 3 and be satisfied, but when I get in a slump & can't just eat a few, I will look to buy a bag of the little kid snack sizes & allow myself up to 1 little bag/day. Maybe if you brought them to work & stuck with only that, it could help?

  7. I have the same problem. I eat plenty of junk food but justify that it's okay because I'm running. I figure that if I balance things out with plenty of fruits and vegetables, it's okay to indulge in some ice cream and candy sometimes.
