Peru - Machu Picchu (Day 7)

Day 1
Day 2
Day 3
Day 4
Day 5
Day 6 - Marathon Recap

We awoke to an absolute downpour of rain. Figures... the one day that we were going to be outside the entire day and raining like crazy? We took our time having breakfast and then we had to get on the scary buses to head back up the hill to Machu Picchu.

Have you seen pictures of Machu Picchu? Did you know that it's on top of a mountain? And did you know that you have climb up LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF STAIRS to wander around it? True. And so. so. so. so. cruel the day after the hilliest, hardest marathon of my life. I don't think I have ever complained so much in my entire life. Every step up was excruciating. Every step down was painful.

I'm in front, most ruined expression ever. But had to post since we all look like something out of a Disney movie.
We got some awesome ponchos to wear around (in rainbow colors - aren't we fancy??). I'll let the pictures do the talking from here. The rain made it foggy, which made the pictures more... mystical.

Loved how they use llamas to maintain the lawn. They are llam-owers. (hahaha)

Lunch was a super tasty buffet. I probably ate the equivalent of three avocados and an entire caramel cheesecake. After lunch we headed back up to Machu Picchu (OW), took tons of pictures:

Most dangerous pyramid ever! I barely made it on top before it collapsed

When we finally got done taking pictures, we took the short hike to the Inca Bridge.

Bridge is closed now, not safe!!

Mr. Peru is not the same without the hat

That "V" in the mountain is the sun gate that we ran through during the marathon
A group of us then decided it was time to leave and we headed down on the bus and then changed into swimsuits for our next adventure. Agua Caliente! (aka, the Hot Springs). The walk was... UPHILL. (Again? Really?)

The water was definitely hot, but we had mojitos to cool down. Major fail on our part was forgetting to bring clothes to change into. By the time we left, it was a downpour. Again. Showered and then got dressed for dinner. Not a buffet this time, but still good. And there was pisco sour. And beer. After dinner, we decided to go out. First place we went was a cute bar/restaurant. We listened to some awful music.

We then decided to go dancing, so we headed to a disco bar. Most fun EVER. I don't know what happened to all the pictures, but there was questionable dance moves, ans floating around somewhere is a video of some of us dancing to YMCA. Construction safety vests & hats and everything. Wonder if THAT will ever resurface. Finally had stopped raining by the time we left. Had to take another shower since I smelled like an ashtray. I slammed two bottles of water and hoped to not have a hangover in the morning.
